Teaching Philosophy 

Hello! My name is Jennifer Shelswell. I am a dedicated Early Childhood Education professor and changemaking faculty who cultivates a learning environment that embraces equity, diversity, inclusion, and promotes a sense of belonging for all students. My courses provide a place for mutual respect and acceptance where all students can learn and grow. I am an advocate for mental health, and I foster wellness and self-care in my students. I believe that we are all life-long learners, and I will learn just as much from my students as they do from me. We are a team! I believe that students engage in a learning environment if they are having fun, and therefore I use a variety of teaching tools and techniques to promote engagement within my classes. My goal is to see students succeed, and I design the courses in such a way that they will meet the needs of a diverse student population. The greatest reward my job offers me is the opportunity to meet so many motivated and inspiring students!
